My Life:We're having something of a crisis over here. My SIL's best friend had begun dating a guy who was almost 15 years younger than she, which my SIL disapproved of. the friend changed her phone number and made it unlisted. Well, today, we found out why. It seems this guy is a felon who had been abusing her and, I suspect, made her change her phone number etc. So today, my FIL got a call from his daughter during church. He called her back after church, and my SIL asked him to please go over to the friend's house, collect her and her two kids, and bring them over to the SIL's house, hopefully, before the guy got back--he had moved in.
They're over there now, and I hope my FIL is going to be able to get the friend safely away. I really wish he had taken Mark with him, but he wanted to get to the friend's house quickly.
I'm requesting that they leave a message on our phone, so we can know if Dad and the friend are okay.
Edit: We heard from Dad. The friend and her children were gotten safely away without incident, thank goodness.
Movie: We saw Alexander Friday night. I thought it was okay, but I got bored with the battle scenes, after a while. Once you've seen one mass melee, you've seen them all. Watching the Greek phalanx, though, was great! The must have trained those actors ore perhaps re-enactors for hours in pike drill. IMO, the parts with Anthony Hopkins were the best. The guy who plays Alxander will probably be a quite good actor in a few years, but right now, he's just young and good-looking, with potential, I think.
Val Kilmer played Phillip of Macedonia, which blew me away. He looks a lot different from Madmartigan now. I miss Madmartigan.
Edit: I hear from my friends Liz and Sarah that Colin Farrell played Alexander. I feel like such a ditz, because of course I've seen him in other films. I don't know which ones, but his name is familiar to me. Liz tells me that the guys playing the Greek phalanx and Colin Farrell trained together in pike drill for six months. Oliver Stone wanted Farrell to be their commander, not to just play him. Pretty darned impressive!
More of My Life: We're taking our friend Donna out to Han's Mongolian Barbecue, down in Clear Lake, for her birthday. Mark loves Mongolian barbecue, and so do I. We're looking forward to seeing some of our SCA household there.
No Medical Transcription Word of the Day; I'm on vacation!
Friends: "If there is at least one person in your life who you consider a close friend, and who you would not have met without being part of an online fandom, post this sentence in your journal."
More than one. I've met very good friends through Star Trek, Pern, and Harry Potter fandoms, all of whom I consider myself very fortunate to have met, and my life has been greatly enriched by them.
Mmmmm!: Winter is the season for eggnog, the ambrosia of beverages. I just remembered that we bought some at the grocery store on Friday, so I am sipping it now. Deeeeelicious!
