LOTR Insight

So the entire Lord of the Rings story is a tale describing how to destroy...a horcrux.

Because it's you, that can be forgiven.

*stern look*

They had the movies on endless replay yesterday. There's a bit in the first movie in which (I think) Gandalf tells Frodo, "The Ring and Sauron are one."

I just kind of stood there and stared at the TV for a moment as it sank in!

Yes but J K Rowling has long cited Tolkien as a major inspiration so she it was her borrow (consdering the age of LotR) as such and the idea of the magical object that embodies something of its maker goes back and back through myth and legend. :)

Plus, the One Ring was very different to a horcrux as Voldemort used those to house bits of his soul. The forging of the rings of power and the one ring was much more than one wizard trying to extend his life or house his soul.

Sauron also was an angelic being over a mortal.

yup, when I saw all the airings of LOTR over the holiday weekend... I sat there going hmmmz never thought about it but it is a hocrux!!! I remember having to try to explain the whhle ring/sauron thing to people who didn't understand the connection and power investment... now I think they would get it a lot more simply cuz they'd rather watch Harry Potter than LOTR. XD
