PETA Weirdness

PETA is starting a 'Sea Kitten' campaign. Not quite sure what it's for, but the graphic is cute. You get to design your own 'sea kitten.' I found this in caersidi's journal.

I named mine Missy in honor of my character Healer Eduerd of Sable Weyr, who is a grumpy old healer who has a habit of calling women 'Missy' when he respects them and when they just irritate him.

Cute picture! And the pink sea kitten I had in a piccata sauce over linguine tonight was delicious! ;)

I swear, if PETA didn't exist, someone would have to make them up. Someone who needs to be on anti-psych meds, perhaps . . .

Kris--PETA is always good for entertainment.

On the other hand, I still love that scene in Hancock in which he sinks the Greenpeace ship with the beached whale. Totally worth seeing the movie for!

I prefer the ASPCA to PETA, mainly because they aren't insane.

I like how the Sea Kitten's eye follows the cursor, that's cute.

In addition, did you read the "Sea Kitten Stories"? Don't, it's disturbing.

I guess it's a good thing that, having grown up Catholic, I've developed an intense dislike for eating fish.

PETA are trying to do something in the vein of making fish seem more appealing to people - the small bit of their website I read seemed to indicate that people don't think of fish the same as they do some other creatures because fish are thought to be cold, scaly, slimy etc. So the 'sea kitten' rebranding is apparently to make people think of fish more fondly.

Tuna with Good Taste, Etc.

They never heard of Charlie, the Starkist Tuna? (g) I thought he was absolutely charming when I was six years old.

Do they even have Starkist commercials in England?

So they want to encourage us to regard fish as cute and adorable so we won't want to eat them, eh?

If PETA had their way, we would all be strict vegetarians. Silly PETA.
