St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Bring out your green, orange, or blue!

Green - Catholic Irish
Orange - Protestant Irish
Blue - the liturgical color for St. Patrick (go figure).

Mark and I will be heading off to the Mucky Duck this afternoon for their celebration. Looking forward to it!

Current Mood: cheerfulcheerful
Current Music: "Dona Nobis Pacem" - Handel

How interesting about the different colors! In ever knew that any color besides green was associated with St. Patrick's day. I wonder if the orange is where the term, "orangeman" comes from (I hope that's not a derogatory or offensive term to anyone - if it is, please excuse my ignorance).

That is indeed where the term Orangmen comes from - the Protesant fraternal organisation. Of course, not all Irish Protestants support their aims.

However, given St. Patrick is a Catholic saint I can't see many rallying to celebrate the day. Not in Ireland.

If you want a good shudder, Google the Orange Order. 'Nuff said.

Wearing orange on St Paddy's is a good way to get abused in a Catholic neighborhood, if you're so inclined.

I personally consider wearing orange at any time reason enough to be abused. :P I look sucky in that color.
