We held a retirement party for one of my co-woriers, Helen, yesterday, which means very little work got done. On the other hand, the fact that our case management software performed as if it were slogging through molasses didn't help. We put on a mini- version of American Idol,/i> for her, with various groups of employees doing take-offs of the Supremes and Aretha Franklin. The group I was in did "Proud Mary."
The lady playing Simon was a total trip. Her best line: "I think you all should do exactly what your song says, and stop, in the name of love." She was perfect!
Then they had me do a prima donna bitch-queen act and insist on singing a second piece because "They made me sing that song! That's not my style, at all!" So I went up and sang "Tu Lo Sai" to Helen, who had asked me to sing something for her before she left.
The best act of all, though, was Ashlyn Carr, a lady from Sugarland, Texas, who actually was a contestant on American Idol and who now has a music career because of her performance on that show. She sang a jazzy pieces that was deep-throated and gorgeous! Oh, man, I wanted to swoon from the sheer gorgeousity of it, worship at her feet, whatever. She really, really sounded good, and I can't think why she didn't win. Wonderful breath support and rich, full tone that filled the room. In fact, I'd say the room was too small for her voice, but it still sounded marvelous. *happy sigh*
Anyway, I went home exhausted. When I got home, I sat down on the couch in the den and fell asleep. I went to bed last night at 9:30, after watching Dog the Bounty Hunter. *loves Dog*
This evening, I'm sipping on hot ginger tea and paying bills, since today is payday.
However, since this is my 'Month of Me,' I'm going to buy myself a Dog the Bounty Hunter t-shirt. (g)
