Cataract Surgery!!!!!

I'd like to welcome emmiem and ivony as friends to my journal. Both are readers of the sphogwarts LJ-based Harry Potter RP game.

I have great news! At last, by some miracle, I've been approved for cataract surgery!!! They finally decided I was blind enough to risk it.

The surgery will be in June, no exact date scheduled, yet. The surgeon is Dr. Charles Garcia of Houston, who I am told is quite good.

::boingy, boingy, boingy, boingy, boingy!::

::ahem::

I'm very, very happy about this! :D Probably will not be going to Fortfest this year because of it, though. :)

I'm going to go crazy, trying to read all at once all the books I've bought but haven't read for the last 3 or 4 years. All my medical books...Reconstruction of Life from the Skeleton, religious books: Revelations of Divine Love, my book on how to learn PHP, several more books on handwriting analysis, all of the Harry Potter books written to date, Dragon's Eye, several Miles Vorkosigan books, Exile's Honor...::drool::

Will get to see Alberich on the cover!

Be able to read my own handwriting as I write!

I hope all of you have had a wonderfully happy Beltane. I certainly have! ::beams::

Yay, I am so happy for you! I will be crossing my paws that the surgery goes well.

Re:

Snowelf--Thank you! :) I'm hoping it will go well, too. The surgeon is said to be a good one, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Wow! This is wonderful news! I can't imagine how ecited you must be, but I'm certainly very happy for you!

Re:

Thanks, Kat! I'm dancing on air. (g)

That's great news - I'm so happy for you! :-D I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that all goes well!

Re:

Nix--Thank you so much! I still can't believe it's actually going to happen. I've had this thing for 14 years, so the idea of getting it removed is just astounding.

Chantal

Yay! Congrats!

Sounds exciting! Congrats. Why didn't they approve it sooner?

Will you be making it to Dragon*Con this year?

Re:

Erin--They haven't done the surgery sooner because I can see out of only one eye, and that eye has other things wrong with it--scar tissue between lens and retina. They've been concerned about detaching the retina while removing the cataract.

The cataract has been so thick since 1995 that the doctors couldn't see through it It was diagnosed sometime before 1989. I look forward to having it gone, at last.

I doubt I'll be able to attend DragonCon unless a miracle happens and I get employed immediately after surgery. I'd love to go, but just can't afford it right now. Fortfest would be easier, because of having no hotel, but it's usually in June, and that's right when the surgery is going to be.

Given the circumstances, I'll take the trade-off. (g)
