Snobby yet ubiquitous.
People act like they understand you more than they actually do.
Work: I so rock. I received a recommendation from a doctor's office today for some low vision aids for a consumer. Each device on the list comes with a MAPS (Medical and Psychological Services) code attached. The recommendation included two items with code V2600, but there was no TCB05 code for a dispensing fee for them. The dispensing fee is basically what you pay the doctor for the office visit during which he dispenses the devices. So I caught the error, checked with the doctor's office, and confirmed that we would owe them $30 more. It's scary that I am learning the job well enough to remember a detail like this instead of just letting the LV aid request go through as written.
I'm sure I'll screw up something, just to balance this coolness out in a few days, but for now, I'm savoring the taste of having gotten past part of the learning curve.
Heard on the Elevator at Work:
Man: "Yeah, there I was, talking on the emergency phone to the maintenance guys: "I'm stuck in the elevator, and I smell smoke."
Woman: "Oh my god! I'll bet after you got out of there, you never wanted to ride an elevator again!"
Man: "Oh, no--I'm a firefighter. I deal with burning buildings all the time."
Writing: Fascinating essay on writing by matociquala.
I will be working on Avriet tonight, working on the molecular structure, as it were, instead of the story.
