Weird TV

Marriage: Happy anniversary to my parents, Saverio and Mona Gaudiano, on 46 years of marriage!

TV: Tonight, I plan to watch a show that I've been wondering whether I should watch. It's called Dexter, and it premieres on Showtime this evening. It's about a Miami blood spatter expert who also happens to be a serial killer. (I'm waiting for a cross-episode with CSI Miami, just waiting.) The way Hollywood makes this semi-plausible is to say that the guy's father, a police officer, recognized the signs in his son at an early age and channeled him into killing only criminals, people the police can't catch.

Um, yeah. I'd have gone for channeling him into not killing people, at all.

I have to admit to a certain morbid curiosity as to how the actor is going to pull this off. Apparently, he has done a lot of research into serial killers, interviewing both them and FBI profilers, as well as doing the reading. I want to see if he will be able to pull off the social awkwardness masked by charisma of a man who really doesn't feel a true connection with other people.

I'm not sure how much of it I can stomach, but I do at least want to watch the first episode. We'll see about other stuff. If I had children, this is absolutely not a show I would want them to see me watching. Maybe I'm wrong or misguided for thinking that, but I think it gives the wrong message.

This is the sort of story that I might come up with in my head but would never attempt to write for the public because I believe it is so implausible. On the other hand, Hannibal Lecter is pretty implausible, too, so maybe I need to rethink my opinions.

Still, is this the kind of show Dog Chapman would watch? Somehow, I doubt it.

Edit: Oh dear! I've just read the character list for this show. Some of it makes me laugh for sheer appropriateness, and some of it just makes me want to shake my head. It also appears that this show is based on the book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.

Vision: I seem to be seeing a little better this morning; I can read smaller screen text than I have been able to lately. Hurray!

RPG Meme

Meme: Nabbed from tarlia.

Name 12 characters you have played in RPGs, before looking at the questions that follow. List your characters numbered 1 to 12, with the name of the RPG you played them in. Once you've picked your 12 characters, look at the questions and answer accordingly. (No peeking until you've picked your characters!) Put your answers behind a LJ-cut.

My characters:

1. Myradin Glennis - Imperial Secrets (duke, healer)
2. Tarran Glennis - Imperial Secrets (evil priest)
3. Ephram Young - Imperial Secrets (empathic detective)
4. Seth Graves - SP Hogwarts (Hogwarts student, Slytherin)
5. Paul Graves - SP Hogwarts (reformed Death-Eater)

Having Seen Dexter...

TV: Interesting show. I sat through the entire episode thinking, "Brenna so wants on this case!" I'm sure Jordan Cavanaugh would want on it, too, but I get more of a Brennan feel about it.

I think I will be watching this again. I'm finding that what I really can't stomach, though, is the slut of a police lieutenant more than the fact that Dexter kills people. That kind of makes me worried about myself. :P La Guerta is such a putz.
