Enough Shrimp! + Some Quizzage

Food: Wow! Last night, for the first time in a long time, I finally had enough shrimp to satisfy me. (g) We went to Red Lobster for dinner after seeing Lucky Number Slevin, and I had the 30 Shrimp platter, which lets you choose two types of shrimp dishes. I had the shrimp with linguine and the scampi. It was wonderful! Next time we go back there, I'm tempted to get the same thing, but get a double order of the pasta version. This only cost $11.99.

Movie: Lucky Number Slevin was a good film. Lucy Lu and Bruce Willis were in it; I don't know who played the lead character. There is a fascinating plot twist in the film, which gives the movie an entirely different tone from what you think it is at the beginning. This one is definitely worth watching. Also, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley play a couple of crime lords. What's neat is, they play them with the veneer of gentlemen on top of the criminality. Very interesting to watch.

Mark told me about this Star Trek movie news last night. Article nipped from richandme.

Writing: I hope to get some writing done for Boy from the Sea and perhaps Avriet today.

Quizzage: Nabbed from marvo:

Elizabeth I, Starring Helen Mirren

Enh. I guess I was too spoiled by Glenda Jackson in my youth. Helen Mirren just doesn't do it for me.

Photo: I love the picture in this link. It is too hilarious! :D Image seen in a comment by happyeverafter.

Note: If you aren't friended to chellealistic's journal, you won't be able to see the image, I'm afraid. Sorry about that. I forgot her journal is friends-only. I'll ask Dina Marie's permission to post the picture in here.

Writing: I finally figured out what I wanted to do with a piece I'm writing, so I got some good work done on it today.

Science Geekery - Deafness

I just read an article stating that the rate of genetic deafness in the US has doubled in the past 200 years, since the advent of schools for the deaf, which taught sign language and enabled deaf individuals to intermarry. Parents who each have the same recessive gene for any one particular form of deafness pass that deafness on to all of their children.

No shit, Sherlock. Ya think?

This happens anmong the visually impaired, as well. Very often they marry and tend to live near each other. The social interaction at schools for the blind contributes to this the same way it does to deafness.
