Medical Transcription Word of the Day: dipyridamole sestamibi stress test - I post this term today because it was completely new to me, and it was so new that it wasn't in our office's medical dictionary. This test is used to measure cardiac stress in patients who cannot take the ordinary treadmill stress test. A medication called dipyridamole (Persantine) is injected into the patient, which mimics the action of blood flow to the heart during exercise.

Coming Together: I was very impressed with President Clinton, today. (Note that I rarely called him 'president' even when he held the office.) He appeared with former President Bush today, being interviewed by Jim Angle, to discuss relief aid for tsunami victims. The two men and the current President Bush visited the Sri Lankan embassy today.

It got me to thinking. When real disasters happen, instead of pseudo/artificial disasters, people will get together and move heaven and earth to get necessary things done. It was good to see these men working together. I wish this same attitude of 'get it done' could prevail in more situations, instead of the seemingly endless factional bickering that we are all so tired of.

Kai kassai, Presidents Clinton and Bush!

Books: My new book to read: Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science by Atul Gawande MD.

Elven Names! (Seen in pegkerr's journal: Quenya Name Guide My name in Elvish is Sardie Atanone. I dispute that 'Chantal' means 'stone,' though. I've always been told it meant 'song.' I was actually very surprised to see it in the Quenya name list. See also this related page.
