Office Christmas Party: I am backdating this entry, so I hope all of you had a joyous Winter Solstice. I wanted to do the thing where you light candles outside and leave them burning all night, to guide the sun back (Norse tradition), but I got too sleepy and just went to bed.

We had our office Christmas party Tuesday--catered fajitas from Ninfa's. It was delicious! We set everything up in the conference room and ate in there, too. There were real, home-made tortillas!

I really, really like my co-workers. We had with us not only everyone from the transcription office on-site, but also all of the employees who transcribe from home, and it was great to meet them! It was great to talk shop with them, to be able to talk to people who are as much medical geeks as I am. Every single one of those people is just a genuinely nice person--no jerks among them, at all. You could not ask for a better group of people to work with.

We exchanged Secret Santa gifts, and I got a candle in a beautiful, green votive candle holder with a metal, green-beaded dragonfly on the end of a wire that spirals around the candle holder, as well as some delicious herbal teas. I'm sipping from a mug of tea right now, in fact--spiced green tea.

I found out that my coworker Jesse can play the guitar! He's fantastic! He and his wife Pearl both sing, and Jesse can do harmony. I was in heaven; just wanted to melt, listening to him play. He's been playing for 40 years. I wonder if he knows how to play classical guitar? I already worship at his feet, but if he plays classical guitar, too, well, I would just melt. If he weren't already married, I would try to fix him up with my friend Donna. (g)

He played this wonderful Mexican version (in English) of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas,' as well as 'Margaritaville' and 'Friends in Low Places,' which my coworker Jennifer sang with him. She was great! She apparently used to sing with a band in college. She ought to do some more!

Jesse played two Simon & Garfunkel songs--"I Am a Rock" and "Homeward Bound," which I sang with him, and, oh God, it was like having Paul Simon there! He knew all of the fingering ornamentations for the guitar. Talk about wanting to swoon. Pearl, you'd better keep that man. :)

After the office party, we went to a restaurant called El Paraiso--mainly for drinks, but some of us also ordered dinner. They make good margaritas! I think we'll be going back, because Mark likes the way they make nachos. They put everything on the nacho, instead of leaving it for the customer to do. I had their quesadillas, which were quite good.

Gaming! My copy of Campaign Cartographer 2 arrived, and I started working with it last night. I now have a rough draft map of Avriet, the setting for the story I wrote for Nanowrimo, this year. It's very neat!
