Aerden [userpic]
Friday Night Movie

Movie: Mark, Tom, and I saw Taken tonight. It was every bit as action-packed as I expected. Liam Neeson's character Brian Mills is wonderfully understated, except when he's beating up on the bad guys--who richly deserved most of what happened to them. Interestingly, he employs a tactic that I just saw used on Burn Notice, though in a slightly different way. It operates on the same principle, though. It's basically a way to convince your subject that you really will hurt them if they don't cooperate. Ruthless, but effective.

I enjoyed it. :)

Superbowl 43: I am rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers--because they used to be the rivals of the Houston Oilers, my home team, before they were moved to Tennessee and became the Titans.

Supper: We ate supper at Fuddrucker's, where I had their Firehouse boneless buffalo wings (very hot!) and sweet potato fries (liberally drizzled with cheese sauce). Yum!

News: So this woman who gave birth to octets already has six older children. WTF?! Utterly inexplicable and insane. Why in hell was she given fertility treatments when she obviously has no difficulties bearing children?

OMG! Octets? I did read that right. That's... That's disturbing. Clearly some people have nothing better to do than be freaky by choice just so they can get attention. How sad is that?

As for that movie. Oh my yum! I wanna see it, too. I don't think I'll ever go into a movie theater to see any movie again, though. I'll just wait for it to come out on DVD. I adore Liam, but not enough to pander to the greed of Hollywood.

She might have become infertile.

My guess is, she lied heavily on the application and no one bothered to do a follow-up check. Of course, when you consider the treatments can get to $20,000 and higher, the clinics have an incentive not to look too deeply.

The Inner Cynic ventures to guess that the reason this lady went for another multiple pregnancy was a vision of the goodies showered upon the McCaughey septuplets years ago. In this economy, she might be lucky to come away with a year's free supply of Pampers for the octet.

I haven't heard anything in the news about her getting too much in the way of donations from the general public. I don't think I'd be too willing to contribute to them. This woman already had more than enough children, and she only added to her own problem. That probably sounds hard-hearted, but...I have a friend on my friends list who went through IVF several times, just to have one child. This woman with the octuplets is abusing the system.

And yep, I'm sure she did lie all throughout her application.

Exactly. A supervisor of mine went through various procedures for ten years just to have one child, not to mention going through adoption agencies. She wanted to adopt one baby girl that was born addicted; the baby would respond only to her, and Lily practically begged on hands and knees. The agency said no, because the baby was black, and they wanted to keep her in her ethnic group.

I haven't had many people cry on me, but Lily sobbed on my shoulder when she told me that story. It's why, when I see people like this woman with the 14 kids, I want to drag them off to an orphanage and say, "You want kids? They want parents. Grab a few."

Not to mention in the article I read there was no mention of a father of the babies. Her father answered all questions and was like "The only reason you know where we are is because of the hospital. We have a big house elsewhere and we will be going there."

I will be interested to see if in the future she receives state or federal aid.

Tricia--I want to say that I hope she won't get a dime of state/federal aid. On the other hand, I don't think the children deserve to suffer because their mother is foolish. So I don't know what to think.

Two word solution: Foster care.

About the Octuplets--I know! I'm thinking, "Good job, lady, now you have fourteen kids to take care of!"

And I thought my great-grandmother having eleven kids was a lot. And they were all single births.

If any of those 14 children are able to afford to attend college, it will be a miracle. What I want to know is, what kind of doctor gave her fertility drugs? *shakes head*

Chantal

I don't think she actually told them she already had six other kids.
