A Lazy Saturday

Life: I got my toenails and bangs trimmed this afternoon, wrote a little with baghdaelf, and took Mark out to La Madeleine for dinner. He had the rotisserie chicken, and I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu. It was delicious! I now have half a spinach quiche and a bottle of blackberry merlot in the refrigerator. I'll probably have the quiche for lunch tomorrow, but I'll have some of the merlot tonight.

Mark will have an article in Sunday's Houston Chronicle about the US and Chinese space programs and whether we should do joint projects.

Movie: The Manchurian Candidate is showing on TCM tonight. It's a wonderful, powerful movie, and the first time I saw it, I cried for half an hour afterward, I felt so sorry for Shaw, the main character.

I was listening to a discussion of the film before it began, and the commentator was saying that Frank Sinatra had wanted Lucille Ball to play the role that Angela Lansbury has in the film. *shudder* I have to say I'm very glad she did not star as Shaw's mother. That woman is evil.

A word of advice--If you want to see this film, watch the original 1962 version; do not watch the crappy version they made a couple of years ago. The remake gutted the original, and it loses as lot of the deep pathos that the original is filled with. It's not worth your time.

Isn't that always true? The Manchurian Candidate, The Ladykillers, The Poseidon Adventure, The Last Flight of The Phoenix.... the list goes on and on.
