Body Worlds

It looks like Mark and I are going to go see the Body Worlds 3 exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science tomorrow.

I am amazed that he's coming with me. We'll be looking at preserved cadavers and some royal tombs from the city of Ur. I really expected to be seeing this thing alone--I mean, who beside me wants to look at cadavers? Having seen them on the TV, they are pretty grotesque-looking, albeit fascinating. Still, I'm glad Mark's coming with me. I love him for that. :)

Um, not to be tacky or anything, but I gotta respond to the "who besides me wants to look at cadavers.

I mean, gee, hon. I'm a nurse! Yeah, I want to see it, and most of the people I know either want to see it or already have, including my massage therapist. It's not like you've got a corner on wanting to look at cadavers, even in the Household. If you were the only person in the world to want to see this, it wouldn't be here in the first place. :)

So if you'd simply asked around, you'd have found that you're not the only person in your circle of friends who has an interest in this thing.

I guess I've always thought that my interest in that kind of thing was abnormal. I was the only person I knew who adored watching Quincy, for example. But man, the exhibit today was crowded! There were all sorts of people looking at it. I was astounded.

Chantal

No, your interest in things forensic is far from abnormal. I loved Quincy, as well. I also watched "Forensic Files" and other things like that on TV when I had cable. I love forensic shows, and don't even ask me about the forensic books on my bookshelves. I'm probably one of the few people who has almost every book ever written by a forensic pathologist. :)

On the other hand, your obsession with reading Medical Textbooks for fun is abnormal! :) But then again, I'd probably say the same thing if you had an obsession with reading legal textbooks for fun!

Annita, my massage therapist not only went to the exhibit herself (and drug her husband Jake with her), she recommended to all her massage students that THEY should go see it. Most of the folks I work with (for those of you not aware, I work in the ER of a Major Level 1 Trauma Center) have expressed an interest in seeing it, too. And some of them have seen a lot of that up close and personal at work!

I'd love to see it, myself. I've just got to find a way to afford the entry fee. Right now, the best I can afford is an occasional trip to Mall of the Mainland's Cinemark Cinema to see first run movies for $2 a piece!

Ahem *begs to remind you that your birthday is coming up soon, and you have an entire Household who would love to give you something cool for your birthday*

*innocent look*

Chantal

Well, that's true. Except that my birthday is the same as your hubby's and Body Worlds leaves on Sept. 4.

Actually, I mentioned it to my former roommate yesterday, and she's trying to figure out if she can afford for both of us to go on her dime. Believe me, I will find a way to see it if I have to beg my brother to front me the admission fee. :)

But I have a feeling I won't have to do that. I'm sure someone will find a way to take me to it. I just don't know yet who it is that's going to come up with it. :)

And speaking of birthdays, are we planning something interesting for the August/September birthday bunch this year?

I don't know about this year's birthdays. Personally, I'd be just as happy to go back to the Bayview Duck. I enjoyed it last year.

*feels terribly unimaginative, but also thinks fondly of the lovely cider and the pints of ale!*

Chantal

I know what you mean about the Bayview Duck. There's a reason why I'm a regular there, and can be found hanging out there almost every Saturday night (and only part of it has to do with the bands!). But there were some folks in the Household who complained VERY loudly about us insisting on spending our birthday there. But then again, those same folks tend to complain no matter where we want to go. :) Gotta love em for that.

And you don't have to wait until birthday time to go back to the Duck. Like I said, you can find me there pretty much any Saturday night. Just holler if you want to come join me and I'll let you know which band is playing that night. :)
